Zen Master Shares Personal Expression in Lawrence University Program

APPLETON, WIS. -- Recognized Zen master Junpo Kando Denis Kelly discusses Zen Buddhism and shares his own personal expression of Zen understanding in an appearance at Lawrence University.

Kelly presents "Zen Dharma" Tuesday, May 14 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Wriston Art Center. The event is free and open to the public.

A native of Green Bay now living in Ashland, Ore., Kelly began studying Zen in 1963 and is a certified Zen Master in the Rinzai Zen tradition. He is fully trained in traditional Zen methods, but actively adapts his teaching to the American context.

Kelly spent five years as vice abbot of the Dai-Bosatsu Zen Center in New York and currently serves as the head teacher for the Green Tara Buddhist community in Green Bay. In 1999, he founded the Hollow Bones Lay Order for men and women, a national Buddist organization that offers meditation retreats around the country.
