"The Digital Divide" Focus of Lawrence University Lecture
APPLETON, WIS. -- The growth of the Internet and the increasing dependence on technology that has fueled a world-wide "digital divide" will be the subject of an address by computer scientist William Wresch at Lawrence University.
Wresch presents, "Haves and Have Nots in the Information Age: A View from Around the Globe," Friday, May 4 at 8 p.m. in Lawrence's Science Hall, Room 102. The event is free and open to the public.
A former Fulbright Scholar, Wresch spent a year in Namibia experiencing firsthand the costs of an information poor life, which served as the basis of his 1996 book, "Disconnected: Haves and Have Nots on the Information Superhighway."
Wresch is the associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He has taught a course, "A Teacher's Guide to the Information Highway," that was broadcast nationally by PBS.
The lecture is supported by the Lawrence University Class of 1968 Peace and Social Activism Grant.
