Assembly Health Committee Leader Examines Health Care "Tensions" in Lawrence University Biomedical Ethics Lecture Series

APPLETON, WIS. -- Wisconsin state representative Gregg Underheim (R- Oshkosh) will discuss the cost, technology and turf battle issues that are driving and dividing today's health care industry in the second installment of Lawrence University's lecture series in biomedical ethics.

Underheim presents, "Tensions in Health Care," Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Wriston Art Center on the Lawrence campus. A question-and-answer session will follow the address. The event is free and open to the public.

Underheim, chairperson of the State Assembly's Committee on Health, will offer an overview of how our present day health care system has evolved, including fee-for service insurance, HMO's, self-insured plans and integrated systems. He also will discuss the factors fueling the escalation in health care costs, including the absence of consumer choices -- the most important element of cost containment -- because of a lack of true market forces.
