Lawrence University Musicians Named Symphony Orchestra Competition
Winners

APPLETON, WIS. -- Percussionist Craig Hauschildt and pianist
Ji-Young Kim have been named winners of the seventh annual Lawrence
University Symphony Orchestra concerto competition. They were selected
from 14 finalists by a jury of Lawrence conservatory of music faculty.
Hauschildt, a senior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, will be the featured
soloist at the LSO's Nov. 18 concert. Kim, a junior from Seoul, South
Korea, will perform solo with the orchestra at its Jan. 27, 2001,
concert.
The Lawrence concerto competition was started in 1994 to provide an
opportunity for all conservatory students to perform a full-length work
with the symphony orchestra.
Lawrence seniors Julianne Carney, violin, Katie Snyder, violin,
Kate
Lewis, viola, and Heather Greening, cello -- known collectively as the
Draheim Quartet -- have been named the winners of the first Lawrence
Symphony Orchestra Community Outreach Resident Ensemble competition.
During the 2000-2001 academic year, the quartet will represent the
conservatory of music in a series of eight lecture/performance
presentations at high schools, churches and civic organizations
throughout the Fox Valley. For winning the competition, the quartet
will share a $2,000 fellowship.
