Mexican Culture Celebrated in Performance of Ballet Folklorico Mexico at Lawrence University

APPLETON, WIS. -- The traditions, customs, history and ancient folklore of Mexico will be brought to life Wednesday, May 2 with a performance by Ballet Folklorico Mexico at Lawrence University.

The 10-member dance troupe will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Wriston Art Center Amphitheatre. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be moved to the adjacent Buchanan Kiewit Recreation Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Through regional dances, vibrant music and elaborate costumes featuring flamboyant feathered outfits and head dresses adorned with beads and 6-foot-long pheasant tails, Ballet Folklorico Mexico celebrates many aspects of Mexican culture, from Vercacrus to Tamauplipas, the ancient traditions of the Axtecas and Sonora and the country's magnificent ceremonial rituals.
