Bookmarks/links to Communications files under http://www.lawrence.edu/dept/public_affairs/ no longer work
Public Affairs has changed its name and is now Communications. We have also changed the web address. Please update any bookmarks or links and replace "public_affairs" with "communications".
Bookmarks/links to Physical Plant files under http://www.lawrence.edu/dept/physical_plant/ no longer work
Physical Plant is now Facility Services. We have changed the web address to match. Please update any bookmarks or links and replace "physical_plant" with "facility_services".
An ellipsis (...) appears after the header or breadcrumb title of the page
Title text has been trunctaed
Some of the titles on our site are too long for the new design, so our script truncates them and adds an ellipsis after 50 characters. We believe this is better than the template being distorted by overflowing text. Please contact the page maintainer and let them know that they should shorten the title on the page.
The big, bold text in that colored bar at the top is overlaying those tiny links underneath
Header text overflowing the line
Related to the issue above, sometimes our automatic truncation isn't strict enough and the text ends up wrapping underneath. This looks really out of place but it's not broken, just too long. Please contact the page maintainer and let them know that they should shorten the title on the page.
The page says [title missing] (even though I know it had a title before)
[title missing] is on page
The heading and breadcrumb titles actually depend on the HTML title assigned to a page. If that title is missing or invalid, [title missing] will be inserted instead. The page maintainer should fix the <TITLE> information, and our automatic service will fix the rest overnight.
The breadcrumb is saying that the page is under one path, when really it is under another; or
I think there should be another level added between the page and the directory listed below it
The breadcrumb paths are based on 2 things: the file system path to the page (e.g. /dept/its/index.shtml) and the arbitrary full-text titles we ascribed to those directories (e.g. /dept/its/ is "Technology Services"). Our nightly job comes through and matches the file system path to the page with the series of full-text titles we have set up. If you think the configuration is incorrect or could be made better, please let us know.
No matter how many times I edit the heading title or breadcrumb title, they keep getting modified over night!
Technology Services has a nightly job that sweeps through and tidies things up every night. The heading titles and breadcrumb titles are based on the HTML <title> on the page. No matter what you manually change the other things to, they will be made to match the <title>. If you fix the <title> the rest will be fixed over the next night.
