Lawrence University encourages the creation of personal websites by members of the Lawrence community. Every student, faculty, and staff member at Lawrence has an account on LU's web server with a template web page included.
Size limitations are as follows:

Faculty have 15 MB of space on the web server.
Staff members have 10 MB of space on the web server.
Students have 10 MB of space on the web server.
Your personal web page can be found at:
http://www.lawrence.edu/fast/username (for faculty/staff), or
http://www.lawrence.edu/stu/username (for students)
(in both cases, substitute your own Lawrence username for "username" in the address). The page you see there is your default home page. It is accordingly named default.html.

In addition to this policy page, please also read the Recommended Guidelines page for general Web best-practices, as well as important information for protecting our community against spam, privacy, and security threats.

Publishing your website

On-campus there are several ways to publish web files. You may use one of the following:

Identifying your website on the list of LU homepages

The personal page directories, accessible at Lawrence Directories, are generated by a little script that looks for pages named welcome.html. So, if you want your page to show up on the list of homepages, simply save your home page as welcome.html instead of default.html.

Important Notices

Personal webpages are not publications of Lawrence University; rather, they are publications by the individuals that create and maintain them. As such, the individual is subject to all local, state, or federal laws (including those governing copyright, libel, or obscenity). Lawrence University will not monitor or otherwise censor personal webpages, but will report any complaints of potentially illegal activities to the appropriate authorities and may take other actions as noted below:

Permission to publish a personal webpage using the Lawrence network is contingent on the observance of the following:

Links for Web Development

In addition to these links, faculty and staff may be interested in the resources listed at the bottom of the main Web Resources page.

Many of these links point to outside resources. We will try to keep them up-to-date, but please let us know if you have any good links to submit, or discover that any of these resources have moved.
