Lawrence University encourages the creation of personal websites by members of the Lawrence community. Every student, faculty, and staff member at Lawrence has an account on LU's web server with a template web page included. Students have 10MB of space on the web server. Your personal web page can be found at: www.lawrence.edu/stu/username (substitute your own Lawrence username for username above.) The page you see there is your default home page. It is named: default.htm
Publishing your website
On campus there are several ways to publish web files. You may use one of the following:
- Ws_FTP is available on Lawrence-owned Windows stations
- FETCH is available on Lawrence-owned Macintosh stations
- Macromedia Dreamweaver is a web editor for both Windows and Macintosh platforms which is available on most Lawrence-owned computers. Using Dreamweaver and an internet browser, you may edit existing webpages live. ITS offers training sessions in this program on an as-requested basis. Contact the Helpdesk to schedule a session.
Identifying your website on the list of LU homepages
The personal page directories, accessible at Lawrence Directories, are generated by a little script that looks for pages named welcome.html. So, if you want your page to show up on the list of homepages, simply save your home page as welcome.html instead of default.htm.
