E-mail Sessions:

Working with WebMail: One hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Lawrence University has standardized on WebMail as a web based e-mail client. In this session, you will learn how to send and read e-mail, open attachments, check your e-mail quota, creating a vacation message, redirecting e-mail to another address.


Excel Sessions:

Advanced Formulas and Functions in Excel: One and one-half hour session open to faculty, staff and students; taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Looking to go beyond the basic functions like =Sum and =Average? In this session we will discuss If statements, Lookup tables, Date functions plus others.

Automating Tasks in Excel Using Macros: One and one-half hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: If you are a heavy Excel user than this session is for you. Come learn how to make your tasks in Excel faster and easier using Macros.

Learning the Basics of Excel: One hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Think you might want to use Excel but you are not sure what it can do for you? During this session we will start with an overview of Excel so you can see what spreadsheets can do by looking at some examples. Then we will cover the basics of navigating within a spreadsheet, entering and editing cells, and basic calculating.

Pivot Tables and Filters in Excel: One hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz.

Description: Do you have a database in Excel but lack the tools to really pull any useful information out of it? Join us to learn more about working with databases. We will discuss sorting, data forms, pivot tables and filters.

Working with Charts in Excel: One hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Looking to create some charts or graphs in Excel? Do you need help getting started? Join us for an hour to discuss the various types of charts that are available and when each is most useful. We'll work with chart formatting commands so that you can produce charts tailored to your needs and preferences.

Working with Formulas, Functions in Excel: One hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: If you have mastered the basics of using Excel and are ready to use more powerful features such as formulas and functions, this workshop is for you. We will learn different ways to sum and average a column or row of numbers. We'll explore logical if-statements and even create lookup tables.

Using Excel to Record Grades: One and one-half hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: This session will show users how to setup and use Excel to track student grades.


Hardware/Operating Sysytem Sessions:

Personal Computer Basics: One and one-half hour session (formally called "Being an Informed User")

Description: Do you want to learn how to make the most of your personal computer? Come learn how to back up your data, check available memory, install memory, check software versions and see what the inside of a computer looks like.

Protecting Your Important Files: One hour session

Description: If you have ever lost a document due to a corrupted diskette, you know firsthand the headache that comes with trying to recreate your work. In this session, we will start with a discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of saving to your hard drive, a diskette and to your NT personal share. Then, we'll show you how to save to each location from both the Macintosh and Windows environments. Finally we'll discuss backup option for Macintosh and PC users.

Purchasing and Upgrading Your Computer: One hour session

Description: Can't decide whether to upgrade your home computer or invest in a new one? Shop smarter by attending this one-hour session on purchasing and upgrading home computers. We'll discuss the latest hardware for both Mac OS and Windows, how to determine your computing needs, and how to stay within your budget.

Hands on with OSX: One hour session

Description: This is a "hands-on" session, learning the where and how's of using the Macintosh operating system, OSX.


Internet and Web Sessions:

Information Technology Services offers several sessions to get you surfing the web quickly or creating your own web pages. From searching to designing, there's a session for you.

Searching the Internet: One hour session offered to faculty, staff and students; taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Learn the basic of searching on the Internet and how to get the best results.

Saving $$ using the Internet: One hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Learn how you too can save money using the Internet to purchase airline tickets, rent cars and book hotel reservations. We'll also discuss when it is safe to use a credit card online.

Introduction to Dreamweaver: One hour session

Description: Introductory class to the basics of creating a web page, working with text, creating hyperlinks in Dreamweaver.

Scanning Images: One hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Learn how to scan images and text using a scanner. We will also touch on editing images.


PowerPoint Sessions:

Creating a Presentation in PowerPoint: One hour session offered to faculty, staff, and students; taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: If you haven't tried it already, creating a professional looking presentation is fun and easy in PowerPoint. Come learn the basics. Then make your presentation one that is fun to give and exciting to watch by including little extras that add life to presentation. We'll show you how!


Publisher Sessions:

Introduction to Microsoft Publisher: One and one-half hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Participants will learn the art of basic desktop publishing: creating text boxes, inserting images, and formatting.


Word Sessions:

Creating and Working with On-line forms in Word: One hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz.

Description: Do you have piles of printed, perhaps out-of-date forms for people to fill out? Would you like the folks on campus to access electronic versions of these forms, fill them out, and e-mail them back to you? Attend this session to learn how to create on-line forms in Word that you can make accessible over the network. Make your process paperless!

Creating Flyers and Newsletters using Word: One and one-half hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Do you currently publish a newsletter or make flyers? Are they eye catching? Do they grab the attention your event deserves? Join us to learn more about working with columns and tables, adding graphics, and using the drawing tools to create attention grabbing documents.

Creating Templates and Forms in Word: One and one-half hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: In this session we will discuss and practice creating and modifying templates and forms. If you have standard forms that need to used either through hard copy or on-line this session is for you.

Learning the Basics of Word: One hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Come get started with Microsoft Word and learn techniques that will help you avoid time-consuming mistakes. We'll cover keyboard shortcuts, selecting shortcuts, where to save and how often, using spell check and, finally, printing your document.

Formatting in Word: One and one-half hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: In this session we will work with tabs, different borders and shading for both paragraphs and tables, using different font effects, working with AutoCorrect and AutoText, and using drop cap features.

Shortcutting in Word: One and one-half hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Learn the shortcuts in Word, from quickly moving around the screen to using the format icons. Save yourself time and be more productive with these time saving shortcuts.

The ABC's of Mail Merging in Word: One and one-half hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: Have you ever received a mass mailing that was personalized just to you? It might have started off saying "Dear Jane". Do you wonder how they created it? During this session we will learn how to create a merged letter using both Word and Excel.

Description: Learn how to create a personal, on-line calendar. Schedule appointments for yourself and others; schedule whole departments for staff meetings with the click of a button. Create personal meeting reminders and much, much more!

Using the Campus Conference Phones: One-half an hour session offered to faculty and staff

Description: Learn how to setup and troubleshoot the conference phone for off campus calls.

Creating E-mail Lists from a Voyager Class List: One hour session taught by Dana Rose-Schmalz

Description: This session will go through creating a class list from Voyager and then importing it into your e-mail to create a group or list.
