Access to LUwireless Secure Wireless

Note: this network intended for our students who wish to use their own personal devices OR Lawrence-owned laptops ONLY.

Select your operating system: Windows 7 - Vista - XP - Mac

Windows 7

  1. Click on the Start Button and select Control Panel.
  2. Under Network and Internet, select View network status and tasks
  3. On the left hand side click on Change adapter settings.
  4. Right click on Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.
  5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on the Properties button.
  6. Click on the Advanced… button.
  7. Select the DNS tab at the top of the window.
  8. Uncheck Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Click Close
  12. Click on the Back arrow button to return to Network and Sharing Center.
  13. Next to View your active networks click on Connect to a network.
  14. A list of wireless networks should come up. Select LUwireless (student registration) and click the Connect button.
  15. In the User name field enter in Viking\username (replace username with you network username). In the Password field enter in your network password. Click OK.
  16. On the next window click Connect. Your wireless connection should now be complete.

Note – If you have any problems connecting to the network please stop by the Technology Services Helpdesk on the second floor of the library for assistance.

 

Windows Vista

  1. Click on the Start Button and select Control Panel.
  2. Under Network and Internet, select View network status and tasks.
  3. Under the Tasks menu on the left, select Manage wireless networks.
  4. In the Manage Wireless Networks window, click Add.
  5. Under How do you want to add a network, click Manually create a network profile.
  6. Under Enter information for the wireless network you want to add, type or select the following information:
  7. Click Next.
  8. Under Successfully added LUwireless, click Change connection settings.
  9. Under the Connection tab, uncheck Connect automatically when this network is in range.  Then click on the Security tab.
  10. Under the Security tab, uncheck Cache user information for subsequent connection to this network.Then click the Settings… button.
  11. Uncheck Enable Fast Reconnect. Then click the Configure… button.
  12. Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any). Then click OK.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Click OK.
  15. Under Successfully added LUwireless, click Connect to…
  16. Under Select a network to connect to, clickLUwireless. Then click Connect.
  17. Under Additional log on information is required to connect to this network, click on Enter/select additional log on information.
  18. Enter your credentials. Type your user name and password in the corresponding fields.  In the Logon domain: field type VIKING.
  19. Under Connecting to LUwireless window, wait for the connection to complete.
  20. Under Additional log on information is required to connect to this network, click on Enter/select additional Log on information.
  21. Click OK. Your wireless connection should now be complete.

Windows XP

  1. Once you have enabled your wireless adapter and are within range of the LUwireless WLAN, a Wireless networks detected message will appear on your desktop. Click on the message, and a list of WLANs will appear. Select LUwireless (student use). Click Connect.
  2. From the left-hand column, Related Tasks, click Change advanced settings. The Wireless Network Connection Properties window appears. Select the Wireless Networks tab.
  3. Click on the Properties button below the pull down menu. The Protected EAP Properties window appears. In the Select Authentication Method box, ensure that Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) is chosen. Then, click the Configure button.
  4. In the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window, uncheck the option Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).
  5. Now back out by clicking OK on each of the open windows in succession.
  6. After a short time, a Wireless Network Connection message should appear. Click on this message.
  7. When the credentials dialog box appears, type in your username, password, and VIKING as the domain.
  8. The first time you log in, a couple additional steps are necessary (thereafter, your computer will connect automatically): First, the Wireless Network Connection message will appear. Click on this message. When prompted to verify a WLAN security certificate, click OK. Your wireless connection should now be complete.

Macintosh OS X

Note: WPA (WiFi Protected Access) works best using OSX 10.3.3 or later with AirPort software 3.3 or later.
