Windows Vista
Access Your Personal Network Space
- Go to Start - Computer.
- From the top, click Map Network Drive.
- Select drive P: In the folder field, enter the network path to the your network space:
- For staff, your network path is \\elda.lawrence.edu\department abbreviation$\username
Staff department abbreviations are usually 3 letters (e.g. adm for Admissions)
There are a couple of exceptions; its and pub are on elda.
- For faculty, your network path is \\elda.lawrence.edu\department name$\username
Faculty department names are plain (e.g. physics, german, etc) with two exceptions:
rlst = Religious Studies
ealc = East Asian Language and Culture
- Check the box Reconnect at Logon.
- Select Different Username.
- In the username field, type: viking\username (substitute your LU username).
- In the password field, enter your network password. Click OK. Click Finish.
To reconnect to Elda after the computer is restarted:
- Double-click My Computer.
- Double-click the drive you just mapped.
- At the password prompt, enter your network password.
Access Campus Share
- Go to Start - Computer.
- From the top, click Map Network Drive.
- Select drive U: In the folder field, type: \\curtis.lawrence.edu\campus_share
- Check the box Reconnect at Logon. Select different user name.
- In the user name field, type: viking\username (substitute your LU username). In the password field, enter your network password. Click OK. Click Finish.
To reconnect to Campus Share after the computer is restarted:
- Double-click My Computer.
- Double-click the drive you just mapped.
- At the password prompt, enter your network password.
Print to Library Printers
(To set up a printer, first login to campus share.)
- Go to Start - Control Panel - Printers.
- From the top, click Add a Printer.
- In Printer Wizard, click Add a network printer.
- Select The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Choose Select a shared printer by name.
- In the Name box, type \\curtis.lawrence.edu\. A list of printers should appear. Choose the appropriate printer. If a list does not appear, type the printer name in the following format:
\\elda.lawrence.edu\Library_Public or
\\elda.lawrence.edu\Library_Public_2nd
- Click Next.
- You will be prompted for your LU username and password. (For username type in viking\username.) Click OK.
- Choose if you want this printer to be your default printer or not. Click Next.
- Click Finish.
Windows XP

Print to Library Printers
To setup a printer it is necessary to first log into your network space. Follow instructions above to map drive. Iif you have already mapped the drive, when starting your computer, double-click on your X drive to login.
- Go to Start - Settings - Printers and Faxes.
- Click Add a Printer.
- At the Printer Wizard, click Next.
- Select a network printer.
- Click Next.
- Click on the middle button, Connect to this Printer.
- In the Name box type: \\elda.lawrence.edu\ A list of printers should appear. Choose appropriate printer.
If a list doesn't appear then type in the printer you want to use in the following format:
\\elda.lawrence.edu\Library_Public or
\\elda.lawrence.edu\Library_Public_2nd
- Click Next.
- You will be prompted for your Lawrence username and password. For username type in viking\your username.
- Click OK.
- Choose if you want this printer to be your default printer or not. Click Next.
- Click Finish.
Mac OS X
Access Your Personal Network Space
- From the Finder select the Go menu.
- Select Connect to Server.
- In the address field, enter the network path to the your network space:
- For staff, your network path is smb://elda.lawrence.edu/department abbreviation$/username (There are a couple of exceptions; its and pub are on elda)

- For faculty, your network path is smb://elda.lawrence.edu/department name$/username

- Click on Add to favorites. Click Connect.
- At the prompt for the network username and password, enter your network username and password. This will create an icon on your desktop. Use it to connect to your network space.
- When you see the list of folders show up, locate yours and double-click on it.
- To disconnect from the network drive, drag it to the trash.
- To reconnect in the future this drive will show up in your list of Favorite Servers.
Optional - Create an Alias to your My Document folder:
At the same time press the Option and Command (apple) keys and click and drag your folder to the desktop. This will allow you to open your network space and access your My Documents folder. (NOTE: The folder will not be copied to your desktop. If you see a box stating it is copying files you need to stop it. Delete the folder on your desktop and try again - making sure to hold both keys down as you drag your folder.)
Connect to Campus Share
- Click Go.
- Select Connect to Server.
- Type: smb://curtis.lawrence.edu/campus_share.
- Click Connect.
Print to Library Printers
- Start Print Center or Printer Setup Utility. (Located in Macintosh HD - Applications-Utilities)
- Click the Add icon, the Add Printer icon, or the IP Printer icon, depending on which you see for your version of OSX.
- From the drop-down menu select IP Printing. If running OS10.4, skip this step.
- If there is a Printer Type drop-down menu, select LPD/LPR. Select LPD in 10.4
- In the Printer Address field type: elda.lawrence.edu
- If your version of OSX show a check box for use default print queue on server uncheck it.
- Type the queue name of the printer:
Library_Public or
Library_Public_2nd
- From the Printer Model drop down select HP.
- Select the LaserJet 4350 series from the Appropriate Printer Model field.
- Click OK or Add.
- In 10.4 click Continue on the Install able options window.
