Standard Desktop Configuration Policy

Policy Statement

In order to reduce total cost of ownership and realize efficiencies in operations, Information Technology Services should strive to standardize desktop configurations. In order to effectively maintain any standardized configuration, certain changes to desktop configurations by campus users must be restricted.  These restrictions may limit the end users from installing and/or updating software. In addition, operating system configuration changes will be restricted.

Procedures

All Lawrence owned systems are created using standard configurations.  These configurations have restrictions that are designed to maximize system performance and to reduce maintenance costs.  Different standard configurations exist depending on the end user and final installation location and purpose (staff, faculty, student and special purpose).
