Privately Owned Computer Policy
Policy Statement
Various members of our community bring their own computers to campus and connect
them to the
Lawrence
network. This policy is an attempt to clarify some of the issues that
arise because of this. For further information, see the "Acceptable Use
Policy".
Procedures
- The hardware address of the network interface card must be registered for
the computer to function on our network.
Faculty members should contact the Helpdesk in order to register
their computer. Students can
register online – see the Information Technology Services web site for details.
- Any privately owned computer attached to the campus network must have
up-to-date anti-virus software running.
- Lawrence
owned software will not be installed on privately
owned computers by Information Technology Services.
However, there is some software legally available for the owners of
these computers to install themselves. Contact
the Information Technology Services Helpdesk to see if the desired software is available.
- Computers causing problems will be disconnected from the Lawrence network
by Information Technology Services and will not be allowed to reattach until the owner has
shown that they have resolved whatever issue was causing the problem.
- Information Technology Services has no obligation to troubleshoot issues on privately
owned computers although general assistance is usually
available by contacting the Helpdesk.
