It is the responsibility of Information Technology Services to protect our computer assets. In order to do so effectively, Information Technology Services must maintain a firewall to secure external access.
Secured assets require special software in order to gain access from outside our campus. This software is most often referred to as tunneling software. Its purpose is to create a secure link – tunnel – between, typically, a user’s home machine and our protected assets – servers, file shares, and software – within our campus.
Tunneling software is provided free of charge to our faculty and staff. The software is not available to students.
The tunneling software we provide may not be compatible with every operating system. Hence there is no guarantee that secured off campus access will be provided for all faculty and staff. Information Technology Services will strive to maintain compatibility with most standard, widely used operating systems.
Faculty and staff need to request tunneling software through the Information Technology Services HelpDesk.
Students should attach documents they wish to work on from off-campus to email and send the email to themselves. They can then access the documents from off-campus. After editing, they will need to resend the document to themselves, open it while on-campus, and then save it to their shared space.
