Rationale: peer-to-peer file sharing software can have a detrimental effect on the performance of desktop computers across campus, can significantly reduce the speed of our network traffic, is an avenue for the introduction of viruses or worms, and allows unwanted and unsecured access to Lawrence computer systems. While such software can be used for legal purposes, it is common knowledge that it is used to illegally distribute copyrighted materials.
