Off Hours Support Policy

Policy Statement

Information Technology Services attempts to insure support for our network, servers, and applications during non-business hours using an emergency phone number. We ask that you recognize that all of our staff members maintain a regular 5 day per week work schedule and that the responsibilities of being on-call place an additional burden on our staff. Please limit your use of the emergency phone number to those instances where you believe there may be a serious network or systems problem. Any such problem would be widespread so, minimally, before dialing the emergency number verify that the problem exists from multiple computers. If someone other than the person carrying the emergency phone is needed to resolve a problem, the person carrying the emergency phone will make those contacts. There should be no need for you to contact any Information Technology Services staff member directly. The emergency phone number should NOT be used to resolve desktop issues or to ask general questions. Those types of problems should be forwarded to the Helpdesk at 832-6570 and will be addressed during regular business hours.

 

Procedures

ITS will send an e-mail message to faculty and staff each term which includes current emergency contact information. Users are asked to save the e-mail as a reference, per chance the emergency phone number should be needed. If the emergency phone is not answered directly, please leave a detailed message including the nature of the problem, your name, and a phone number where you may be reached so that your call can be returned.
