How do I get my network-e-mail password
and/or my Voyager pin?
Account information is mailed to new students in the summer housing letter. It
is printed on a sheet entitled "Student Computer Account Information."
The network-e-mail password is separate and different
from the Voyager pin. If you misplace your letter, account information can be
obtained
in person from the
ITS
Helpdesk, located in room 201 of the library.
What is my e-mail address?
Generally, e-mail addresses follow the format of firstname.middle
initial.lastname@lawrence.edu, i.e. john.j.doe@lawrence.edu
OR your_username@lawrence.edu
What e-mail client does Lawrence use?
Lawrence is currently standardized on Webmail, a web-based e-mail client which may be accessed via the internet on
and off campus. Webmail may be accessed at the following address: https://mailhub.lawrence.edu/
Is wireless available on campus?
Yes, both encrypted and unencrypted wireless access are available to students. To learn more, click here.
How do I connect my computer to the Lawrence Network?
To connect to the Lawrence network you will need an ethernet card (if your computer does not already have one), an ethernet cable/s,
and a current Internet browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. You will then need to configure your computer for the Lawrence
network and register your hardware address. See Room
Connections for detailed instructions.
If I need help connecting my
computer, can I contact ITS?
ITS will provide support for students connecting computers to our network. ITS will also assist students with virus issues. Please contact the Helpdesk at x6570; you will most likely need to bring your
computer to our office. The Computer Science Club (located at 128 North Union Street) has also been available to help students with connection to the network, spyware/adware issues, and some hardware issues. Visit their theme house or contact the club at x6121.
If my roommate and I bring computers, can we both connect to the network?
Yes, if both you and your roommate are bringing a computer and plan to connect
to the Lawrence network, one of you will need to check-out
a minihub from the ITS Helpdesk. A minihub allows multiple computers to
be connected through one data port. There is no cost for checking out a minihub,
as long as it is returned to ITS at the end of the school year.
(If it is not returned, a charge of $50.00 plus a $20.00 service fee will be placed on your student account.)
Note: You will need three ethernet cables to connect two computers in your room. (One cable is required from each computer to the hub and an additional cable from the hub to the data port in the wall.) Students are responsible for providing their own ethernet cables. They are available for purchase at Union Station (campus store) or at most electronics stores. Ethernet cables are sold in various lengths; determine the length of cable you purchase by the placement of computers in proximity to the minihub. Check out the room layout page to estimate length of cable needed.

Does my residence hall have a computer lab in it?
Lawrence residence halls contain public labs with networked computers, a networked laser printer, and a telephone for reporting issues to the Helpdesk at x6570. These are 24-hour access facilities. Each registered Lawrence student has
a "star key" that
allows entrance to these residence hall labs. Click here for a listing of residence hall computer locations.
Note: The Sage and Colman labs are larger in order to reflect the additional number of students residing in smaller nearby buildings. Labs in residence halls are managed with cooperation from the Dean of Students Office.
How is Lawrence combating computer viruses?
Due to the alarming number of viruses which have affected the Lawrence
network, antivirus software is required on all
Windows systems connected to the Lawrence network. The good news... ITS provides free antivirus software to students
using the Windows operating system. The software can be downloaded from on campus
only. The software can then be automatically updated while your computer is connected to
the network.
Do I need to bring a phone for use in my dorm room?
Yes, if you would like to use a phone in your dorm room, you will need to bring one to campus with you. The university does not supply a room

from other phones.
