Logging in to Moodle
- Open a web browser. Firefox works well with Moodle. (Mac users should NOT use Safari as the text formatting tools do not display properly.)
- Go to http://moodle.lawrence.edu
- Click the “Login” link in the upper right.
- Enter your Lawrence network username/password and click the “Login” button.
- Moodle will list the courses in the lower left that have been assigned to you.
To create an enrollment key (password) for your course
An enrollment key (optional) helps to prevent “outsiders” from enrolling in your course. You must email the key (password) to your students before they can enroll in your course.
- Open your course in Moodle.
- Click on the “Settings...” link under the Administration area on the left
- Type something into the Enrollment key box about half-way down the screen.
- Click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page.
To activate/deactivate a course for your students
You might wish to keep your course deactivated while you are developing your Moodle site and then activate it when you are ready for your students to enroll.
- Open your course in Moodle.
- Click on the “Settings...” link under the Administration area on the left.
- Change the selection next to Availability about half-way down the page.
- Click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page.
To add an activity (assignments, forums, quizzes, etc.)
- Open your course in Moodle.
- Click “Turn editing on” at the top of the Administration area on the left.
- Find the week number that you want to add the activity for (the week an assignment will be due, for example) and click the “Add an activity” popup menu next to that week.
- To delete an activity, click the X icon next to the activity while editing is on.
To upload a file (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) for your students
- Open your course in Moodle.
- Click “Turn editing on” at the top of the Administration area on the left.
- Click the “Add a resource” popup menu for a week and select “Link to a file or website.”
- Click the “Choose or Upload a File” button.
- Click “Upload a file” on the right hand side.
- On the next screen, click the “Choose File” button and find the file you wish to upload.
- Click the “Upload this File” button.
- Click the “Choose” link next to the file.
- Fill in the information next to the “Name” and “Summary” fields and click “Save Changes.”
