SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER

POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

REPORTS TO:                      Director of Technology Services

 

LOCATION:                         Seeley G. Mudd Library

 

 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

 

This position is responsible for the design, installation and support of the campus data network including routers, firewalls, switches, wireless systems, DNS, DHCP, network security systems and IP phone systems.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.      Implement and support network equipment including bridges, routers, firewalls, switches and related systems and services.

2.      Design, configure, monitor and optimize wireless, local and wide area network for optimal performance and maximum availability.

3.      Perform preventive and fault isolation maintenance on local and wide area networks.

4.      Design, configure, monitor and maintain network security systems, including firewalls, network access control systems and security appliances

5.      Evaluate and recommend new hardware, software and services for local and wide area network.

6.      Develop, maintain and update detailed network documentation.

7.      Perform other related duties as required.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Primary working relationships are within the Office of Technology Services, although frequent contact with students, faculty, and other staff will also occur.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

1.      Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or the equivalent work experience.

2.      Must have three to five years experience in designing, supporting and managing enterprise network infrastructure and systems.  Any technical certifications and/or technical training on network hardware systems strongly preferred.

3.      Experience managing technology projects including planning and delivering results.
