SECURITY OFFICER

POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

REPORTS TO:            Lead Security Officer

 

LOCATION:               Patrol University Property

                       

 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

 

Responsible for protecting Lawrence University students, staff, visitors, property, and buildings from fire, theft, vandalism, and other hazardous conditions.

 

 

DUTIES:

 

1.   Perform walking and motorized patrol of university property, punching computer stations, being of service, and giving assistance when requested.

 

2.   Responsible for handling and reporting:  (90%)

a.   safety of students, faculty, and staff

b.   checking and locking/unlocking doors on campus at pre-designated times

c.   student access to buildings after hours

d.   complaints (noise, suspicious activities/persons, theft/loss, etc.)

e.   safety/security related matters including lock problems, burned out lights, storm damage, maintenance problems, etc.

f.    vandalism on campus

g.   breaking and entering into any university property

h.   relaying emergency calls to proper person and/or agencies

i.    parking violations and enforcement

 

3.   Writing reports (10%)

      a.   daily log

      b.   incident reports

      c.   theft/loss report

      d.   alarm report

 

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Daily direction will be provided by the Lead Security Officer.  Interact with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

 

1.   Good judgment with the ability to make sound decisions.

 

2.   CPR/First Aid certification or ability to become certified within one year of employment.

 

3.   Must possess valid Wisconsin driver's license.

 

4.   Good interpersonal and communication skills.

 

5.   Sensitivity for confidentiality of materials/information processed.

 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

1.   Will wear a university supplied uniform.

 

2.   Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

 

3.   Available to work overtime when required (i.e., providing security for special programs, athletic events, and in case of disaster).

 

4.   Must be willing to attend organizational meetings as required.

 

5.   Must have a home telephone.

 

6.   Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.

FOUR OPENINGS - SHIFTS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • 10pm – 8am Thursday and Friday and every other Saturday/Sunday
  • 5pm – 10pm Monday and Tuesday and 5pm – 3am every other Saturday/Sunday
  • 5pm – 10pm Thursday; 5pm – 3am Friday and 5pm – 3am every other Saturday/Sunday
  • 10pm – 6am Tuesday through Saturday (temporary full-time)
