HVAC/GENERAL MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
POSITION DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Director
of Facility Services
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
Purchase, repair, install, and maintain
refrigeration, air conditioning and other temperature control equipment.
DUTIES:
1. Plan
and perform preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment to include
pneumatic controls, valves, thermostats, all air handling equipment, chemical
and water circulating pumps, ventilating fans, environment rooms and boxes,
walk-in coolers and freezers, window air conditioners, cooling towers, to
include:
a.
Run chemical tests of heating and cooling water.
b.
Check air compressors.
c.
Check louvers, fans and belts.
d.
Check oil on refrigeration motors.
2. Select
and install equipment, determine proper type and size, mount in position,
attach accessories and controls, test to insure proper operation.
3. Perform
equipment repairs:
a. Analyze problem and conduct
tests to determine source.
b.
Design adaptation, remodel and/or rebuild units.
c. Replace parts.
d. Weld or braze
connections.
e. Perform electrical repairs on
refrigeration equipment.
4. Other
duties:
a. Clean and maintain hot water
boilers and operate as required.
b. Maintain inventory of supplies,
parts and equipment.
c.
Complete assigned work orders in a professional manner and complete daily time
sheets.
d. Maintain clean equipment rooms.
e.
Assist with training and supervision of student workers and other mechanics.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Will exist with all members of the Facility
Services and occupants of the various university buildings where work is being
performed.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. Require 5-7 years' previous experience
in commercial or industrial HVAC environment including post-high school
education in HVAC.
2. Must possess valid Wisconsin driver's
license.
3. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
4. Must be able to climb using step and
extension ladders.
EQUIPMENT USED:
1. University vehicle.
2. Trade related hand tools, common maintenance
tools.
3. HVAC trade test equipment, charging
stand, electric welding equipment.
OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED:
1. Ability to work with or without supervision.
2. Ability to follow instructions
and make decisions.
3. Ability to adapt to changing
requirements and priorities in a busy campus setting.
4. Ability to relate to faculty,
staff and students.
5. Adherence to safety policies
and practices.
6. Ability to perform work
that is physically challenging including bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting,
reaching, and climbing.
