EMPLOYER RELATIONS COORDINATOR
POSITION DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Dean of Career Services
LOCATION: Career Center
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
We’re looking for someone who has the ability to advise students on career development and to create a partnership between the university and the local community by cultivating and fostering employer connections.
DUTIES:
- Introduce Lawrence to employers through outreach initiatives (e.g., site visits, collaborative programming, email and virtual contacts). Build pipeline of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in diverse fields to increase internship and job offerings. Manage these employer relationships.
- Develop internship sites according to students’ needs and interests; cultivate and maintain professional contacts at internship sites.
- Engage employers in creative ways to assist students with their career preparation (e.g., Think Globally, Explore Locally program, mock interviews, panels, mentoring, site visits, case studies).
- Prepare/coach alumni/employers and students for these interactions.
- Work with the Internship Coordinator, Associate Director of Alumni & Constituency Engagement for Career Services and other Career Services staff to develop creative programming to engage students.
- Contribute to the development of internship program manuals/guides, internship learning agreement forms, and electronic and print marketing materials as required.
- Meet individually with students to assist with their career planning efforts.
- Evaluate systems and processes in Career Services, providing suggestions to improve efficiency and effectiveness when necessary.
- Partner with the Internship Coordinator on delivering internship orientation meetings as needed.
- Serve as collaborative colleague by helping with various projects and/or events as prioritized and assigned.
- Serve as active member of Career Services and student affairs staffs.
- Attend regional workshops or professional meetings on behalf of the university upon request.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Must be able work collaboratively with students, faculty, Career Services staff, employers/ internship/job sponsors, community organizations, alumni, Associate Director of Alumni & Constituency Engagement & Career Services, development and student affairs staff. A portion of the position will be designated to individual career advising of Lawrence students.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Two or more years experience in a higher education setting preferred with experience advising students helpful.
- General understanding of best practices to engage employers for career services.
- Executive presence with excellent interpersonal skills, high energy level, and the ability to relate well to a variety of people and groups both in and outside of higher education.
- Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills. Self-motivated.
- Experience with technology including database or program management software.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities
- Possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
- Commitment to the values and mission of a residential, liberal arts college.
- Must have successful completion of criminal record, driving record and reference checks.
