ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ANNUAL GIVING
POSITION DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Director of Annual Giving
LOCATION: Annual Giving Office, Brokaw Hall
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
This person will work with director of annual giving and other associates within the development office to achieve increased levels of expendable annual support from alumni, parents, and friends of the college, particularly through management and supervision of the Lawrence Fund Student Advisory Council and the “Be The Light!” student giving campaign, the Viking Class agents, and 10th Reunion programs.
DUTIES:
1. Lawrence Fund Student Advisory Council
- Advise and oversee the TLF Student Advisory Council, a student-run group that provides on-campus advocacy and education to students for The Lawrence Fund. Assist with recruitment of committee members, facilitate and organize meetings, assist with idea implementation, and serve as mentor
- Manage the Be The Light! student giving campaign, which is focused on raising money for The Lawrence Fund from current Lawrence students. Assist committee with event planning, coordinating marketing efforts, managing communication efforts, and motivating volunteers.
2. Viking Class Agent Program
- Personally visit to recruit and train Viking Decade class agents, as needed (Viking class agents are also members of the Young Alumni Council)
- Coordinate two annual class agent solicitation mailings and develop other programs to actively engage class agents
- Assist class agents to personally solicit their peers for annual support
- Communicate regularly with class agents about their results and the overall successes of the program
3. 10th Reunion Committee
- In coordination with ACE staff, identify, recruit, and provide training materials for the 10th Reunion chairs and committee members
- Establish preliminary goals for gift and participation rates, including giving clubs and multi-year pledges, and identify top prospects and develop solicitation strategies
- Oversee and track solicitation assignments; organize conference calls with volunteers to ensure a successful Reunion
- Communicate regularly with committee members about their giving results and the overall successes of the program
- Personally visit to recruit and/or solicit alumni approaching their 10th Reunion
4. Other
- Maintain a portfolio of primarily young alumni donors and prospects. Personally visit donors and volunteers on a monthly basis. Travel territories include Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, greater Wisconsin, and some national travel.
- Work closely and in conjunction with other Assistant Director of Annual Giving to increase engagement, active participation, and giving in current student and young alumni constituency groups.
- Create a strategic plan and develop annual goals and objectives for these assigned fund-raising programs.
- Direct Mail Program: Assist in planning, coordinating, and managing annual giving direct mail programs related to the Be The Light! student giving campaign, Viking Class Agents, and 10th Reunion program including message, timing, and audience. Work with associates in the Office of Communications to write, design, and produce fund-raising materials and other communications.
- Help maintain appropriate records and prepare follow-up analyses and reports of solicitation efforts; participate in overall planning of The Lawrence Fund.
- Actively participate in other development and ACE activities as requested or required including, but not limited to, attendance at university functions and personal solicitation of donors.
- Provide assistance and support in other duties as assigned by the director of annual giving.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Work with all members of the development office, ACE, communications, the president’s office, trustees, alumni, parents, students, and friends of the university.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in related area with an appreciation for a private, liberal arts college setting.
- Drives results and is solution-oriented.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities.
- Strong interpersonal leadership and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Strong organizational and planning skills for balancing multiple projects and tasks.
- Strong analytical and technical aptitude with an attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of computers and computer software programs.
- Prefer two years development experience.
- Must have successful completion of criminal record check, driving record check and reference checks (where applicable).
- Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license and meet university driving standards.
