PART-TIME ASSISTANT TRACK & FIELD COACH

POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

REPORTS TO:          Athletic Director with daily interaction with the Head Coach

 

LOCATION:              Alexander Gym

 

 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

 

Under the direction of the Head Coach, the part-time Assistant Coach will provide leadership, supervision and coaching for a varsity athletic team of the college.

 

DUTIES:

 

1.      Coach at varsity competition as appropriate.

 

2.      Coordinate all aspects of training and practice program(s) for the team(s) at instruction of the head coach.

 

3.      Teach skills and strategies for use in competition.

 

4.      Recruit athletes for college team(s).

 

5.      Supervise athletic facilities and equipment.

 

6.      Scout opponents when appropriate.

 

7.      Keep individual and team statistics and records as required.

 

8.      Assist the head coach in developing schedules and support budget recommendations within guidelines.

 

9.      Make travel arrangements for team within available resources.

 

10.  Develop an informational relationship with external media representatives and cooperate in supporting the college sports information effort.

 

11.  Drive college vehicles to and from activities, or arrange for qualified drivers.

 

12.  Supervise student employees as assigned.

 

13.  Attend college and associated meetings as required.

 

14.  Ensure compliance with all required NCAA Division III and Midwest Conference rules and regulations.

 

15.  Establish and maintain a good rapport with the alumni and support organizations (Hall of Fame, “L” Club).

 

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Will exist with the head coach, athletic director, varsity athletes, other coaching staff members, support personnel, sports information personnel and Admissions Office, parents, and alumni.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

 

1.      Bachelor’s degree (preferably a Master’s degree) in related area.

 

2.      Prefer previous experience as an assistant or part-time coach at the collegiate level.

 

3.      Strong knowledge of the type of sport assigned.

 

4.      A capacity to interpret game strategies and to match players to the nature and level of opposition.

 

5.      Awareness of accepted safety and health practices.

 

6.      Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

 

7.      Must have hepatitis B vaccination series.

 

8.      Must possess valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
