Research Interests
I've always been fascinated by rivers and in particular human influences on
rivers. As an undergraduate I investigated changes in sediment storage along the
Colorado River in response to the construction of Glenn Canyon Dam. My
doctoral research focused on the effects of land use changes on river systems in
northeastern Puerto Rico (see GSA Bulletin paper). After my doctorate I worked as a consultant
doing stream and wetland restoration projects.
I recently completed a project working closely with archaeologists at the Paso del Indio
site in Puerto Rico. My job was to interpret the flood plain sediments and
determine the depositional history and environmental setting of the site (see
Geoarchaeology paper). During
the summer of 2002 I began an investigation of the effects of storm water
detention ponds on river morphology. That work has been expanded to include some
water quality investigations as well.
