On Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, Frank Doeringer, Nathan M. Pusey Professor of East Asian Studies and Professor of History, delivered this lecture entitled "Entering into the Spirit of Chuang Tzu." The lecture introduced and placed into historical context the first work in Freshman Studies, Chuang Tzu's Basic Writings. Chuang Tzu was an early Taoist philosopher who urged his readers to achieve happiness and freedom by understanding the Way of Nature (Tao).
