This lecture on Marx and Engels' The Communist Manifesto, delivered at Lawrence University on October 2, 2000, was designed for students and faculty in the college's Freshman Studies program. Freshman Studies, a multidisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts, has been the cornerstone of the Lawrence curriculum for over fifty years. The lecturer, Michael Hittle, is the David G. Ormsby Professor of History and Political Economy at Lawrence. Professor Hittle holds the Ph.D. from Harvard University and is a winner of the University Award for Excellence in Teaching.
