Individual sections of Freshman Studies are taught by faculty members from all departments. In the first term, a student might work with a historian or a painter, in the second with an oboist or chemist or anthropologist. In the selection of the teaching staff, then, as in the choice of works and the design of the assignments, Freshman Studies reflects Lawrence's commitment to the liberal arts--and to the idea that liberally-educated men and women need not be bound by their training, their histories, or their habits.
