Faculty & Staff Tuition Benefit Programs


Full-time employees (working 40 hours per week) with dependent children of college age may apply for tuition remission at Lawrence, a participating ACM college, or the Tuition Exchange, Inc., of which Lawrence is a member. The purpose of these programs is to provide financial assistance to full-time employees who have higher education expenses for their dependent children.


Eligibility

Full eligibility requirements can be found in the Lawrence University Employee Handbook. A summary of those requirements are:

  1. Employee must have completed a minimum of two (2) years of full-time employment (40 hours per week) immediately prior to the student’s enrollment or before eligibility begins. (School-year employees qualify if they work 40 hours per week.)
  2. Student must be a dependent as defined by Lawrence University:
    1. Under 24 years of age AND
    2. Naturally born or legally adopted children of or step-children of domestic partnership AND
    3. Claimed as a dependent for IRS purposes by the parent who is a university employee AND
    4. Dependent on the employee's household for greater than 50% of his/her financial support which comes from a combination of:
      1. The employee and the employee's spouse/partner
      2. The child's other parent and such other parent's spouse/partner if the employee and other such parent are not married. .
  3. Tuition benefits are limited to the equivalent of 4 years, 8 semesters, or 12 terms.
  4. Students who have already earned a four-year college degree are not eligible for participation in the program.
  5. Only full-time students enrolled for their first baccalaureate degree are eligible to participate.
  6. Tuition remission benefits will be continued upon death or disability for those employees with more than six years of employment and after retirement for those with a minimum of twenty years of service who are 62 years of age or older.

Lawrence University Tuition Remission (LUTR)

The Lawrence University Tuition Remission Program (LUTR) provides tuition benefits to dependent children attending Lawrence University as degree-seeking students. In addition to the eligibility criteria list above, the following stipulations also apply:

How to Apply

  1. Apply for admission to Lawrence (must be admitted under the normal Lawrence admissions process).
  2. Complete the Lawrence University Tuition Remission Application and Certification of Eligibility by January 15.
  3. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Lawrence University Application for Financial Aid by March 1.

 

Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) Tuition Remission Program

The ACM Tuition Remission Program (TREP) provides tuition benefits to dependent children attending one of the participating ACM colleges. Participating colleges currently include Beloit, Coe, Colorado, Cornell, Grinnell, Knox, Lake Forest, Luther, Macalester, Monmouth, and Ripon. In addition to the eligibility criteria list above, the following stipulations also apply:

How to Apply

  1. Review the ACM Tuition Remission Exchange Program Guidelines
  2. Complete the ACM Tuition Remission Application and Certification of Eligibility and $25 application fee (payable to ACM).
  3. The Financial Aid Office will provide an application fee wavier card for each ACM college the student is applying to.
  4. Apply for admission to participating school or schools of choice (must be admitted under the normal admissions process).
  5. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  6. Complete the importing college's financial aid application requirements, if any.
  7. After the student decides where he or she will enroll in the fall, complete the ACM Tuition Remission Applicant's Confirmation of Participation

National Tuition Exchange (TE)

The Tuition Exchange (TE) Program provides tuition benefits to dependent children attending one of more than 600 private and public, not for profit, participating institutions located in 47 states, DC, UK, and UAE. In addition to the eligibility criteria list above, the following stipulations also apply:

How to Apply

  1. Complete the Tuition Exchange Application and Certification of Eligibility and submit the $60 application fee (payable to Lawrence University).
  2. Must be admitted under the importing colleges admissions process.
  3. Must fulfill the importing college's financial aid application requirements, if any.
  4. Final decision for Tuition Exchange is made by the importing college. Certification of eligibility by Lawrence University does not guarantee an offer of Tuition Exchange by the importing college.
  5. If the student receives a Tuition Exchange benefit and will enroll at that school, complete the Tuition Exchange Applicant's Confirmation of Participation

Timeline

Those applying for tuition benefits under the Lawrence University faculty & staff tuition benefit programs must adhere to the following timeline. All tuition benefit applications and confirmation of participation forms must be submitted to the Lawrence University Office of Financial Aid.

January 15 Deadline for new LUTR, TREP & TE application
February 15 Deadline for TE renewal application
April 1 Deadline for LUTR & TREP renewal application
May 1 Deadline for new applicants to submit confirmation of participation

 

To Apply

Application for tuition benefit programs must be submitted to the Lawrence University Office of Financial Aid no later than January 15th of the year in which the student is applying for the tuition benefit. Deadlines for renewal applications vary by program.
