The Lawrence Awards for Outstanding Teaching in Wisconsin

The Lawrence Awards for Outstanding Teaching in Wisconsin foster a partnership between Lawrence University and secondary schools in Wisconsin by recognizing teachers who have been singled out by their former students for excellence in teaching. The awards have been given since 1985 and are funded through the generosity of an anonymous donor.

Each year, two awards are presented. The awards are given in a ceremony at the President's House, where the recipients are invited to dine with their former students and other guests. Each recipient also receives a monetary award and funds for school library acquisitions.

Any Wisconsin secondary school teacher is eligible. Nominations are made by graduating seniors who attended high school in Wisconsin, and winners are selected by the Committee on Teacher Education.

Award recipients should be teachers who:

• effectively communicate their subject to their students
• create a sense of excitement about their subject
• motivate their students to work toward excellence in academic achievements
• show evidence of genuine concern for their students both in and out of the classroom
