Douglas Schneider, '95, was honored by Down Beat in the outstanding college performance category as an instrumental soloist in the jazz magazine's eighteenth annual student music awards competition. Schneider graduated summa cum laude last spring, receiving both bachelor of music and bachelor of arts degrees.
His performance on the tenor saxophone was singled out for the award from a group nomination submitted by the four-piece Lawrence University Jazz Chamber Ensemble. Schneider's award marks the fourth time in the last five years that Lawrence's jazz program has been recognized for excellence by Down Beat.
