
The Lawrence Cello Ensemble, founded by Janet Anthony in 1984, has toured the state of Wisconsin, performing and giving clinics in the public schools as well as formal recitals on various community concert series. In addition to being heard on Wisconsin Public Radio’s “Live from the Elvehjem” radio series and at the MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the ensemble was invited to perform at the Fifth American Cello Congress at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona and, since 1996 has presented annual recitals at Bjorklunden, Lawrence’s retreat center in Door County.Sixteen works by fourteen composers have been written for for the Lawrence Cello Ensemble since 1987. Three of these pieces were commissioned by Lawrence University with grants from the Fox Valley Arts Alliance and/or the Wisconsin String Teachers Association, two have been published by the National Cello Institute, three by Latham Music Enterprises and several others are under review for publication.
