FETCH
FETCH - a software used by Macintosh users. It is a method of transferring files over the Internet, in other words, to copy a file from one computer to another at very fast speeds. This normally requires either a user id on both systems or a special configuration set up by the system administrator(s).
Starting FETCH
Double-Click on the Fetch icon or choose FETCH from the Apple
Menu.
Select the Transfer site (with ID and Password)
- In the Host field, type:
- www.lawrence.edu to access your web space
- henry.lawrence.edu to access student or staff home directories
- elda.lawrence.edu to
access faculty home directories
- curtis.lawrence.edu to access the campus share
- In the User Id field, type: your username
- In the Password field, type: your Network password
- If you are accessing your web space, in the Directory field, type the name of the starting directory:
- dept/your_department_name for departments
- stu/your_username for students
- fast/your_username for faculty or staff
- Click on OK.
Retrieving a File (Download)
- Make sure the Automatic button is selected.
- Double-Click the appropriate folder to find the file you want.
- Click on the file you want to retrieve.
- Click on Get File.... or Indicate the folder on your computer where you want to save the file.
- Click on Save... or Click and drag the file you want to retrieve onto the desktop.
Sending a File (Upload)
- Go to the folder on the remote computer where you will send the file.
- Click on Put File...
- In the dialog box, select the file you want to send.
- Click on Open.
- In the dialog box, verify or change the destination, file name, and file format.
- Click OK.
Stopping a Transfer
If you need to stop the transfer (either during uploading or downloading), press the
Cancel button.
Getting Help
From the Windows menu, choose FETCH Help.
Exiting FETCH
From the File menu, choose Quit.
