Lawrence wrestling team moves into top ten in national poll

APPLETON, WIS. - The Lawrence University wrestling team broke new ground Wednesday when it moved into the top ten in the Adidas/Brute NCAA Division III Coaches Poll. Lawrence is now ranked ninth, the highest ranking ever by the Vikings.

The Vikings began the season ranked No. 12, but an impressive 27-10 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Dec. 1 helped Lawrence's climb. Platteville, ranked No. 23 in the poll, has a win over Loras College, which had been ranked ninth.

Lawrence also has three individuals in the rankings.

Senior Ross Mueller moved up to fifth at 174 pounds. The Richfield native and former Germantown High School star has an 11-1 record with a team-high six pins. Junior Andy Kazik (De Pere/West De Pere High School) is fifth at 184 pounds with a 12-2 record. Junior Scott Fischer (Kimberly/Kimberly High School) is fifth at 285. Fischer has been with the team for less than a month after completing the football season. He has been impressive thus far, posting a 4-0 record with two pins, including a ten-second pin of Platteville's Zach Bowgren.
