Buenzli named head athletic trainer at Lawrence

APPLETON, WIS. - Erin Buenzli is the new head athletic trainer at Lawrence University.

The Eau Claire, Wis., native comes to Lawrence from Grinnell College, where she served as assistant athletic trainer and employee wellness coordinator since August 1998.

"We're very excited that we found a great person to fill that spot immediately," Lawrence Athletics Director Dave Brown said. "She has really fit in well at Lawrence, and we're very happy to have her."

Buenzli is a graduate of Eau Claire Memorial High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in health promotion and athletic training.

Buenzli worked at an outreach sports medicine clinic in Wausau, Wis., from August 1996-November 1996 before heading to graduate school at UW-La Crosse. Buenzli received a master's degree in human performance from La Crosse in May 1998.

"I always knew I was going to be involved in sports," said Buenzli, a three-sport athlete in high school and softball player at Stevens Point. "It wasn't until I got injured in my junior year (in high school) that I thought, 'Hmmm, sports medicine.' "

Buenzli's duties at Lawrence include injury prevention, emergency care, injury rehabilitation, documentation, and running the daily operations of the athletic trainer's office. "I never think of coming into work," Buenzli said. "I think of it as I'm heading to school today, and this is what I want to do."
