APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University volleyball standout Laura Aerts has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.
Aerts (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly), a senior setter, played a big role in Lawrence's perfect 3-0 week, which included a pair of Midwest Conference wins and a 3-0 shutout of No. 14 UW-Eau Claire.
Aerts piled up 117 assists, an average of 11.7 per set, and added 24 digs, an average of 2.4 per set. Aerts chipped in with five kills and one service ace.
In a 28-26, 26-15, 24-26, 25-17 win over Grinnell College, Aerts had a career-high 48 assists and 11 digs. Aerts followed that with 35 assists and four digs in a 25-23, 26-24, 25-22 win over Knox College. She wrapped up her week with 34 assists and nine digs in a 31-29, 25-19, 25-20 win over the 14th-ranked Blugolds, which was Lawrence's first victory ever against a ranked opponent.
On the season, Aerts has 469 assists and is averaging 6.34 assists per set. Aerts, who has 31 kills and a .294 hitting percentage, also is averaging 2.01 digs per set and has a team-best 27 service aces.
Lawrence, now 12-9, has tied the school record with its current seven-match win streak, and the Vikings are 3-0 in Midwest Conference play for the first time in school history.
The Vikings return to action Friday when the Vikings play at Monmouth College.
