Tennis standout Larson wins MWC Player of the Week honors

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University women's tennis standout Beth Larson has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.

Larson (Maplewood, Minn./Mounds Park Academy), a sophomore, posted a 4-0 record on the week at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as Lawrence won three of its four dual matches.

Larson beat Knox College's Megan Funk 6-0, 6-4, and teamed with Jennifer Roesch (Cedarburg, Wis./Grafton) to beat Funk and Jordan Kuban 8-3. Lawrence beat the Prairie Fire 7-2.

In a 7-2 win over Monmouth College, Larson beat Amy Unzicker 6-2, 6-3, and teamed with Roesch to beat Unzicker and Kimi Wegner 8-5.

Larson was a bright spot in Lawrence's 6-3 loss to Loras College as she accounted for two of the points. She beat Ale Ruales 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, and Larson and Roesch beat Ruales and Lindsay Dunkirk 8-4 in doubles.

In a 5-4 victory over the University of Dubuque, Larson downed Hannah Scheidewend 6-3, 6-1, and teamed with Roesch to beat Scheidewend and Kristina Mc Wethy 8-3.

Lawrence returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Carroll University.
