GALESBURG, Ill. -- Freshman Sam Stevens took the title in the mile to lead the Lawrence University track team at the Midwest Conference Championships at Knox College.
Stevens won the mile in 4:24.84, and he also placed fourth in the 800 meters in 1:58.96. Led by Stevens, the Vikings finished eighth in the team standings with 22 points.
Also placing for the men was Lucas Below, who took sixth in the pole vault with a height of 12 feet, 3.5 inches. The men's distance medley relay took sixth with a time of 11:03.73.
The Lawrence women also placed eighth and finished with 16 points.
Freshman Rose Tepper paced the Lawrence women by taking second in the high jump with a leap of 5-3.25. Senior Madeline Steininger cleared the same height but finished fourth due to more misses.
Emily Muhs was the other Lawrence placewinner as she took sixth in the 5,000 in 18:56.64.
