APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men's basketball star John Dekker was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week after leading the Vikings to a sweep of a pair of nonconference games in Florida.
Dekker (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) averaged 21 points and nine rebounds in the two games in December. The senior forward hit on 14 of 32 shots from the floor, including 8 of 18 from 3-point range.
Dekker scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Lawrence’s 72-58 victory at Trinity (Fla.) College on Dec. 17. Dekker followed that performance with 23 points and nine rebounds in a 96-52 rout of Florida College on Dec. 18. The 44-point win for Lawrence was the Vikings’ biggest margin of victory since a 53-point (92-39) drubbing of Goucher on Dec. 29, 2005.
On the season, Dekker is leading the team in both scoring and rebounding. He is averaging 23.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
The Vikings improved to 4-5 on the season with the two victories and don't play again until they host Beloit College on Jan. 12.
