Larson named MWC Player of the Week for second time this season

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University freshman women's tennis standout Beth Larson has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.

A native of Maplewood, Minn., Larson put together impressive wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead Lawrence's 9-0 rout of Ripon College in the Vikings' final conference match of the season.

Larson beat Josie Ullsperger 6-0, 6-1 in singles and teamed with Lisa Ritland to beat Ullsperger and Chelsey Foster 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Larson, a former standout at Mounds Park Academy, is now 15-1 in singles and 12-4 in doubles.

The shutout of Ripon, Lawrence's fifth consecutive victory over its arch rival, gave the Vikings the North Division title with a 4-0 record. Lawrence is the top seed from the North at Friday's Midwest Conference Tournament in Madison, Wis. Lawrence will play Monmouth College in one semifinal, and St. Norbert College takes on Grinnell College in the other semifinal. The winners meet for the conference championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championships.
