Koula leads trio of incoming women's soccer players

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team has three additions for the upcoming season, Director of Soccer Blake Johnson announced Friday.

The trio of incoming women's players is led by transfer Mallory Koula, a former star at nearby Kimberly High School. Joining Koula are Elyse Daly of Rockford, Ill., and Eleanor Galvin of Elmhurst, Ill.

"The three incoming players will contribute immediately," Johnson said. "Mallory is a transfer from Hamline University and someone we recruited for last year. Both Ellie and Elyse have played club soccer throughout their youth years, and we will look for them to contribute immediately."

Koula, a first-team All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection in 2008, led the league at 0.94 goals per game and 2.22 points per contest. Koula, who will be a sophomore in the fall, scored 17 goals and added six assists for 40 points during her freshman campaign.

Koula was a team captain at Kimberly and a three-time All-Fox Valley Association selection.

Daly, who played both defense and midfield as a two-year varsity player at Boylan Catholic High School, was an Illinois State Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. Galvin, a midfielder, was a four-year starter at Fenwick High School. The team captain, Galvin was an all-conference and all-sectional selection. The Student Council and junior class president, Galvin was named to the honor roll every semester of high school.

Lawrence, which opens its season Sept. 1 against Hamline, finished 7-11-0 last season and took fifth place in the Midwest Conference.
