APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University's Hayley Vatch has been named the Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week.
A senior from Elmhurst, Ill., Vatch won two events and broke a pair of her own records in the process at the Wisconsin Private College Championships records this past Saturday.
The former star at York High School won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.96, breaking her own meet record of 5:22.53. Vatch also won the 1,650 freestyle in 18:12.81, shattering her own meet record of 18:24.62. Vatch also took third in the 200 freestyle in 2:03.68 and swam on the second-place 400 freestyle relay team.
Led by Vatch, who was named Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season, the Vikings finished third in the team standings.
Lawrence doesn't return to action until it travels to the Midwest Conference Championships Feb. 13-15 at Grinnell College.
