Goodson wins MWC track award for second straight week

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University's Marva Goodson has been named the Midwest Conference Field Performer of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Goodson, a sophomore from Saginaw, Mich., won the long jump and placed in two more events to lead Lawrence at the Carthage Invitational this past Saturday. She also broke one Lawrence record and tied another in the process.

A former standout at Bridgeport High School, Goodson took first in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 2.25 inches, which makes her a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships. She has the fifth-longest jump in the nation this season and no one else in the Midwest Conference has jumped farther than 16-10.

Goodson also took third in the 200 meters in 26.94 seconds, breaking the school record of 27.05 set by Diana Ling in 1993. She grabbed fourth in the 55 meters in 7.48 seconds, tying the record Ling set in 1994. Goodson's time in the 55 also is the fastest in the MIdwest Conference this season.

Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when it travels to the UW-Stevens Point Invitational.
