APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University's Josh DeSmit and Jameson Raymond have won Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association weekly awards.
DeSmit, a sophomore forward, was named the Player of the Week, and Raymond, a freshman defenseman, was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
A native of New Hope, Minn., DeSmit helped Lawrence to a weekend sweep at Finlandia University. The former star with the Minnesota Ice Hawks spearheaded Lawrence's 3-2 overtime victory this past Saturday. He scored the game-tying goal late in the third period and then scored the game-winner with only 0.7 seconds left in overtime.
DeSmit, honored as a Player of the Week for the first time in his career, also added an assist in last Friday's 3-1 victory and finished the weekend plus-four.
Raymond, a native of Flint, Mich., picked up a goal and two assists on the weekend. He scored scored the game-tying goal in Friday's victory and then added two assists in the overtime win on Saturday. Raymond, a former standout for the Traverse City North Stars, had an assist on DeSmit's game-winning goal on Saturday.
Raymond, who was plus-five for the weekend, also helped Lawrence penalty killers limit Finlandia to 1-for-13 on the power play in the two games.
Lawrence returns to action this weekend when it has a home-and-home series with Concordia (Wis.) University.
