Losselyong, Lipson to join Lawrence softball staff

APPLETON, Wis. -- Amy Losselyong and Ben Lipson are joining the Lawrence University softball coaching staff.

Losselyong is a familiar face to softball fans in Lawrence's home of Appleton, Wis. A former prep superstar pitcher at Appleton North High School, Losselyong is finishing her studies at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and will graduate this spring with degrees in psychology and human development. Lipson, who has been a college head softball coach, is currently serving as an assistant women's basketball coach for the Vikings.

Losselyong was the Wisconsin prep Player of the Year in 2005 and earned all-region honors in 2004 and 2005. A three-time first-team All-Fox Valley Association selection, she was the conference Player of the Year and Post-Crescent All-Area Player of the Year in 2005.

"Amy brings a great perspective to our program," Lawrence head coach Kim Tatro said. "She is competitive and passionate about the game. In my opinion, she is well beyond her years in terms of her maturity and knowledge. She had the chance to work with our team this fall and it's clear that she will be a huge asset to our program. While it would be great to have her on our roster this year, having her in the dugout as our pitching coach is the next best thing."

Losselyong played for a season at Minnesota State-Moorhead before transferring to UWGB and playing one season there.

Lipson was the head softball coach at Stephens College in 2007 and served as head coach at Mount Mercy College (2004) and Independence Community College (2005). Lipson, who has a bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Memphis, began his coaching career as a softball assistant at Bradley University and the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.

A native of Cordova, Tenn., Lipson has a master's degree in coaching from Texas Woman's University.

Lawrence begins practice in early February and the Vikings start play in late March when they travel to Clermont, Fla.
