Vikings sweep MCHA weekly awards

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team swept the weekly Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association awards.

Senior forward Joe Searl was named Player of the Week, junior defenseman Josh Peterson was chosen as Defensive Player of the Week, and goaltender Pat Greeley was named the Freshman of the Week.

Lawrence swept the opening MCHA series of the season, defeating Northland College 3-2 last Friday and shutting out the Lumberjacks 5-0 on Saturday.

Searl, a native of Fond du Lac, picked up the second Player of the Week honor of his career after scoring two power-play goals and handing out two assists in the two games.

Peterson, who hails from Duluth, Minn., picked up two assists in each game over the weekend. Peterson spearheaded a Lawrence defense that limited Northland to only 11 shots on goal in Saturday's game and a 2-for-22 showing on the power play for the weekend.

Greeley, a native of Marquette, Mich., picked up his first collegiate victory by making 19 saves in Friday's victory. Greeley raised his save percentage to .919 and lowered his goals against average to 3.00.

The Vikings are back in action this weekend when they travel to the University of Minnesota-Crookston for a two-game series.
