APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University football standout Matt Frelich has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Frelich, a freshman defensive lineman from Maribel, Wis., turned in the best game of his short career in Lawrence's 8-6 win at Knox College last Saturday.
The former Denmark High School star blocked the extra-point attempt after Knox scored its lone touchdown of the game in the second quarter. The ball was scooped up by cornerback Derek Micke, who raced to the end zone for two points. It proved to be the difference in the game.
Frelich recorded a career-high 11 tackles and picked up two tackles for loss, including his league-leading fourth sack of the season. Frelich also forced a fumble, which was recovered by teammate Mike Gostisha.
On the season, Frelich is third on the team with 33 tackles and has seven tackles for loss.
Lawrence (4-3, 3-3 MWC) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Beloit College (1-6, 0-6) in the Banta Bowl at 1:30 p.m.
