Gill named assistant track and field coach

APPLETON, Wis. -- Ben Gill has been hired as an assistant track and field coach at Lawrence University, Director of Athletics Robert Beeman announced Thursday.

Gill joins the staff of first-year head coach Jennifer Jacobsen, who also coaches the Vikings' men's and women's cross country teams.

"We are excited to have someone with such a strong athletic background joining us," Beeman said. "Ben is an enthusiastic and versatile addition to our coaching staff, and he will help raise our program to the next level."

A native of Appleton, Gill was a two-sport standout at Xavier High School. He earned all-state honors in track in four events and was named the Valley 8 Conference track and field Athlete of the Year. Gill, who graduated in 1997, also was a star football player for the Hawks.

Gill, who studied history at the University of Wisconsin, was an All-Big Ten performer in the decathlon for the Badgers.

Gill lives in Appleton and is chief executive officer of Gill Insurance Services.
