Lawrence soccer teams pick up academic honor

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's and women's soccer teams have won the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award.

The award goes to teams that earned a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2005-06 academic year. Lawrence was one of 52 schools in the nation to have both of its programs honored. This marks the second consecutive year Lawrence has had both teams win this award.

The Lawrence women were among 234 teams honored and posted a team grade point average of 3.42. The Lawrence men had a grade point average of 3.19 and were among 81 teams honored.

Lawrence had 12 women's soccer players named to the Academic All-Midwest Conference team in fall 2006. To be eligible for that honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have a minimum 3.2 grade point average. Seven Lawrence men's soccer players also were named to the academic all-conference team in fall 2006.
