APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men's basketball standout Chris Braier has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.
Braier, a senior forward from Wauwatosa, led Lawrence to a 2-0 record this past week. The Vikings defeated the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, the No. 2-ranked team in the nation, 82-75 in overtime, and then defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering 74-53.
Braier, a former star at Wauwatosa East High School, averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds in the two contests while shooting 51.4 percent (18-35) from the floor. Braier scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and had six assists in the upset of Oshkosh, which is the highest-ranked team Lawrence has ever defeated. He added 20 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists in Lawrence's win over MSOE on Saturday.
Braier, a two-time All-American and former Midwest Conference Player of the Year, is now in seventh place on Lawrence's career scoring list with 1,204 points. He is 40 points away from passing JoJo DePagter for sixth place.
Lawrence is back in action tonight at Wisconsin Lutheran College before traveling to Illinois College and Knox College this weekend to start Midwest Conference play.
